About Catholic Charities Spokane

Catholic Charities Spokane is a network of 15 social service programs throughout the 13 counties of Eastern Washington. It is the largest sectarian nonprofit organization between Seattle and Minneapolis. In 2007, over 48,000 different people were served by Catholic Charities. 85% were low income and of other than the Catholic faith. Catholic Charities serves based on need, not creed. The programs of Catholic Charities Spokane include the following

House of Charity: A shelter for homeless people providing hot meals, a free medical clinic, laundry and mail facilities, and beds for 108 men per night.

St. Margaret’s Shelter: A shelter for women tranistioning from domestic violence and/or drug abuse. Residents may have children under the age of 12 with them and may stay for 18 months.

Partners for Community Living (Bernadette Place): Residential, round-the-clock care for 12 developmentally disabled women.

Counseling: Sliding-scale services for individuals, couples, and families.

Childbirth and Parenting Alone (CAPA): Support for young pregnant or parenting mothers through childbirth and parenting classes, counseling, a Doula program and a Labor Coach program, and access to diapers and baby clothing.

Refugee & Immigration: Support for those fleeing from violence in their native countries or those who wish to become citizens of the U.S.

Senior Housing: Secure subsidized apartment complexes in Spokane and outlying regions for low-income and/or disabled seniors.

Housing for Familes: Secure subsidized apartment complexes in Spokane and outlying regions for low-income families.

St. Anne’s Children and Family Center: Childcare for over 200 children including both full-pay and Working Connections families. St. Anne’s is also home to the CAPA program and Cuddles & Care, a mildly-ill childcare sponsored by Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.

Senior Services: Comprised of Volunteer Chore Services, Foster Grandparents, and Senior Nutrition, this program offers practical and emotional support for seniors in Eastern Washington.

Parish Social Ministry: Works with parishes in the Spokane Diocese to assist them to better live out our common Gospel call to serve the poor and vulnerable among us, through education, advocacy, outreach, community organizing, and service.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS): The international relief arm of the U.S. Catholic community, CRS alleviates suffering and provides assistance to people in need in over 100 countries.
