Santa made a surprise visit to Bernadette Place just before Christmas and was greeted by Jesse Hansen, Director, before gathering Christmas wishes from the residents.

Janice Pernsteiner is glad to be living at Bernadette Place. Born with Down syndrome in 1961, Janice has been at Catholic Charities' home for developmentally disabled adult women since 1990. She goes to classes through P.A.C.E. and enjoys other activities offered by Spokane Parks and Recreation: dances, crafts, and art. Janice doesn't say a lot, but she has a great sense of humor and is a lot of fun. She'll mimic other people in a heartbeat, and once came out of a Disney store wearing a bandanna, wielding a sword and exclaiming, "Aye-aye, Captain!" Janice's father, George, says of his daughter, "She loves the companionship at Bernadette Place. Being alone the way I am, I could never keep her occupied the way they do, or provide such wonderful services. It's been a godsend." Thankfully, Janice is likely to be enjoying Bernadette Place for years to come.
